MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY OLSEN: BOWERY BABES

Posted in Ashley Olsen, Mary-Kate Olsen on August 25, 2011 by fadedblog

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were spotted departing from the Bowery Hotel in New York City on Wednesday afternoon (August 24).

Taking a break from their signature boho style, the designing duo looked rather chic and well put together as they made their way back home following a lunch meeting. While Mary-Kate showed off her gams in a pair of black jeans, a baggy top and pumps, twin sis Ashley kept things more classic wearing skinny jeans, a white button-down shirt and lots of bulky jewelry.

Meanwhile, Mary-Kate insists her and Ashley’s fashion line isn’t “fast fashion.”

The American twins have three successful fashion labels, The Row, Elizabeth and James and Olsenboye, which all appeal to different markets. The Row is a luxury high-end brand and boasts a host of celebrity fans.

MK says a lot of workmanship goes into the line.

“It’s not fast fashion,” the 25-year-old tells The Telegraph. “We pay so much attention to the fit and the quality and the details. It takes a lot of discipline. But we’ve always been very driven, and we enjoy what we do. It’s what we know.”

Mary-Kate and Ashley are famed for their petite frames. The fashionistas were child stars -and with a lack of labels producing childrenswear, they often had adult clothes from labels such as Chanel cut down to fit.

“We loved it!” Ashley exclaims. “We’d go through racks and racks of clothes, and hours of fittings. When you cut something down that small, it has to be precise. So we’ve always been really interested in fit.

“And over the years we’ve become more educated in fabrics and make, and appreciating those small details. That’s where we start from now, always – what feels right.”

Their attention to detail is apparent with their designs. Ashley says a lot of thought is put into the way the pieces fall on a woman’s body.

“It’s about the drape and the fabric,” she says. “And finding the balance between the two.”

MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY OLSE FETE WWD IN FUR

Always up for a high profile fashion event, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attended the WWD 100 Anniversary Party at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City this evening (November 2).

Virtually merging into one entity in their matching fur ensembles, the designing duo rubbed pointy elbows with the likes of Anna Wintour, Coco Rocha and Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr as they celebrated the fashion publication’s centennial anniversary.

Meanwhile, it appears the Olsen twins are always finely dressed from head to toe — even at the gym.

Hollywood Life has the dish:

While the majority of the people during Soul Cycle at the TriBeCa studio during the 5 o’clock spinning class on Saturday night were dripping with sweat, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen seemed unaffected by the vigorous workout in their long-sleeved cashmere sweaters and long pants (although if it’s any consolation, an onlooker said they sat down on their bike much more than they expected).

An onlooker said the twins sat towards the back of the room and while Mary-Kate knew how to work the bike, her sis Ashley seemed like a first-timer during the spin class.

Now that Fashion Week is over, so is Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s stay in Paris.

Looking fashionably tragic as always, the designing duo were spotted arriving back in Los Angeles today (October 9) as the made their way through LAX Airport.

Meanwhle, despite their love of all things oversized, Mary-Kate and Ashley have revealed that their spring/summer 2011 collection continues to concentrate on sharp tailoring and and “refined luxury” inspired by London’s Savile Row.

MK tells Britain’s Elle magazine: “We wanted to concentrate on tailored pieces. The Row is named after Savile Row and refined minimal luxury is what this is all about. Like the trouser suit and doing the perfect blazer.”

The 24-year-old twins had to show their upcoming collection this week after they were forced to cancel their New York Fashion Week event in September due to the late delivery of a number of their fabric samples.

That said, the Olsen ladies are now happy with the 15 looks that make up the new line.

Ashley tells WWD: “We wanted to make sure the production was where we wanted it to be and that meant not being in New York.”

After spending the afternoon designer on designer duds, the furry twosome could be seen leaving a boutique on the Champs-Élysées while being protected from the rain via their very own personal umbrella holder.

Meanwhile, the twins otherwise known as MKA say they “find what’s next” in style with their clothing line The Row.

The 24-year-old fashionistas tell Entertainment Tonight: “The design process usually starts up with a conversation. It’s really about finding what’s next and what categories to explore.”

Mary-Kate and Ashley add: “I think we became perfectionists at a young age so, for us, the fit is so important.”

The pair named their clothing line The Row after the famous London street Savile Row.
