Oprah Winfrey spoke to thousands of adoring fans at Melbourne’s Federation Square in Australia on Friday (December 10).

“Hello Melbourne. You’re looking good Melbourne,” the talk show legend said as she took the stage, flanked by Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu. “This is what I call a welcome. I’ve seen nothing like this in my life, my life, my whole life. Wow!”

The 15 minute speech was the TV queen’s only scheduled public appearance during her Australian tour.

Oprah said she “always wanted to visit” Melbourne. “I’m so happy to be here in the third-most liveable city in the world … do you all go to friendly school? Everyone is so darn friendly. I love the fact that you all have supported me and supported this show and cared enough to get up and shower, find something to wear and come down here to Federation Square to say hello.”

Some of the thousands in the audience had been at Federation Square since the morning, camping out and hoping to catch the star’s attention.

Oprah will film an episode of her TV show at the Sydney Opera House on December 14, when the iconic building will be transformed into the Sydney “Oprah” House.
