Former President Bill Clinton and his newly married daughter Chelsea Clinton were in good spirits as they posed outside of his Global Initiative meeting in New York City on Wednesday (September 22).

Though she was no there, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says preparing for her daughter’s wedding was the most wonderful, difficult and stressful task she’s taken on in the last few months.

In an interview for broadcast Sunday on ABC’s This Week, Hillary said that being the mother of the bride and planning a wedding is always stressful.

But, she says, “Doing it long distance, jet-lagged, on planes, in the midst of diplomatic negotiations, made it a little more so.”

Chelsea wed her longtime boyfriend, investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, earlier this summer before an exclusive high society gathering at an elegant estate in upstate New York.

As for Bill’s thoughts on his son-in-law? During his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week, he said: “I’ve known him since he was in high school. He and Chelsea were the closest of friends for half their lives. They never even went out until about three years ago. And they either fell madly in love or realized they always had been and just didn’t know it. But it’s a wonderful thing because they know each other so well.”

In this handout image provided by Genevieve de Manio, Chelsea Clinton weds Marc Mezvinsky at the Astor Courts Estate on Saturday (July 31) in Rhinebeck, New York.

Chelsea, the daughter of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, married Marc in an interfaith ceremony at the estate built by John Jacob Astor on the Hudson River about two hours north of New York City.

All week, rumours swirled about an A-list guest list. So far, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, former Clinton adviser Vernon Jordan and actor Ted Danson are the most recognizable.

Meanwhile, the media is abuzz with profiles of Chelsea’s investment banker hubby, advice on interfaith marriage (she’s Methodist, he Jewish) and glowing praise of Chelsea herself as the “model” first daughter.
