GEORGE CLOONEY HITS THE OPEN ROAD

Posted in George Clooney on December 14, 2010 by fadedblog

It’s not all work for actor/humanitarian George Clooney.

Joined by a friend, the Oscar-winning actor was spotted hitting the open road on his Harley Davidson motorcycle in Los Angeles on Monday (December 13).

Meanwhile, George has teamed with an international coalition of stars to star in a music video for the ‘We Want Peace‘ global initiative to bring attention to the ongoing genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Led by Sudanese hip-hop artist, activist and former child soldier Emmanuel Jal, the effort benefits the Global Initiative for Sudan and also features cameos from Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel, billionaire philanthropist Richard Branson, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former U.N. Secretary General and Nobel laureate Kofi Annan.

The clip features children holding up signs making the plea “We Want Peace,” and Jal said it was actually students who were instrumental in helping to alert the world to the genocide in his country.

George is urging action now because of fears of the outcome of an upcoming referendum slated for January 9, 2011, in which the people of Southern Sudan and the region of Abyei will participate in a vote that could determine the country’s fate. It is believed that the North will once again launch a civil war if it loses control over the oil-rich southern region of the country. The last civil war, in 1983, lasted 20 years and claimed more than two million lives.

GEORGE CLOONEY TALKS JUSTICE IN SUDAN

Posted in George Clooney on October 13, 2010 by fadedblog

Taking a break from making movies, George Clooney attended a meeting to discuss justice in Sudan at the US Capitol in Washington, DC on Tuesday (October 12).

The 49-year-old actor/humanitarian was joined by Sen. Richard Lugar and human rights activist John Prendergast as he spent the evening talking about the plight of the people of the impoverished African nation.

Gorgeous George recently returned from Sudan, and is asking the U.S. and world community to use international pressure and robust diplomacy to prevent violence ahead of the January 9 election.

The election is an independence referendum on south Sudan that is likely to split the country in two, and there are fears that the vote could lead to a new outbreak of north-south civil war.

Following his meeting with President Barack Obama, George told reporters: “At a time that is one of the most politicized times ever, this is something that everyone agrees on: If there’s some way to get ahead of this and stop it before it happens, we better.”

The civil war, in which nearly 2 million people died, was one of the bloodiest of the second half of the 20th century.

MEGAN FOX, GEORGE CLOONEY AMONG ATTENDEES AT ARMANI SHOW

It was as union of power couples as Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green joined George Clooney and lady love Elisabetta Canalis at the Armani runway show in Milan, Italy today (September 27).

While gorgeous George and his model gal pal went basic in matching black, Megan sparkled in a silver blazer and matching shoes.

Megan is currently appearing in a series of ad campaigns for the fashion house.

Meanwhile, Megan recently made headlines when she insisted she loves being married.

“Getting married was the best thing I’ve ever done,” she said earlier this month. “I married my best friend. I’m so lucky to get to be with him every day, and he’s my protector. I feel so safe and happy and completed.”

The 24-year-old big screen beauty also said she enjoys helping Green raise his 8-year-old son Kassius.

“I’ve been a stepmother for six years and it’s amazing,” she said. “I really enjoy it. It’s a lot of work but I like it. It grounds me. I like being domestic. I would love to be a biological mommy some day. That would make me very happy.”

GEORGE CLOONEY HONORED WITH BOB HOPE HUMANITARIAN AWARD AT 2010 EMMY AWARDS

George Clooney was honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2010 Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (August 29).

After picking up the prize, the celebrity dogooder cuddled up beside his supportive girlfriend
Elisabetta Canalis as he rubbed elbows with fellow ceremony attendees.

Gorgeous George is the fourth person to be recognized with the honor.

The 49-year-old star ended his acceptance with a poignant call to action to keep the attention on the humanitarian crises that fade from the spotlight too soon.

It’s important to remember how much good can get done, because we live in such strange times where bad behavior sucks up all the attention and press. And the people who really need the spotlight: the Haitians, the Sudanese, people in the Gulf Coast.. Pakistan, they can’t get any.

I thought maybe there was a way to combine the two. I have offered to go to the south Sudan and have a wardrobe malfunction, but it was pointed out to me that I’m 49 and the consensus was that it would just be upsetting and kind of sad.

When the disaster happens, everybody wants to help, everybody in this room wants to help, everybody at home wants to help. The hard part is seven months later, five years later, when we’re on to a new story. Honestly, we fail at that, most of the time. That’s the facts. I fail at that.

So here’s hoping that some very bright person right here in the room or at home watching can help find a way to keep the spotlight burning on these heartbreaking situations that continue to be heartbreaking long after the cameras go away. That would be an impressive accomplishment. Thank you.
