A special group of women have been selected for Essence magazine’s December issue, on newsstands November 12.

The cast of Tyler Perry‘s new movie For Colored Girls graces the cover in an array of colourful gowns.

Thandie Newton (orange), Kimberly Elise (silver), Phylicia Rashad (peach), Anika Noni Rose (yellow), Kerry Washington (blue), Loretta Devine (green), Janet Jackson (red), Tessa Thompson (purple) and Whoopi Goldberg (white) sat for the exclusive portrait for the magazine’s 2010 Hot List issue.

Anika (of Princess and the Frog fame) says she has high hopes for the movie, which is adapted from playwright Ntozake Shange‘s 1974 Broadway hit for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf.

“I want this film to awaken people to the power of Black actresses,” she says. “I want people to know there are things that Black women go through that aren’t slavery or hip-hop. I want people to know Black women as Americans.”

Janet Jackson visited 106 & Park at BET Studios in New York City on Thursday (October 28).

The 44-year-old pop star was in good spirts as she dished with hosts Rocsi and Terrence J. about her latest career endeavours.

On the show, Janet revealed that she had her breasts bound as a child when filming the TV sitcom Good Times.

Miss Jackson was 11 years old when the show began shooting and had to bind her breasts because producers thought they were too large.

The singer revealed that the experience made her feel that her body wasn’t good enough and was the inspiration for titling her upcoming book, True You.

Janet Jackson attended the premiere of For Colored Girls at Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City today (October 25).

It appears the 44-year-old singer/actress was unsure about whether to wear a skirt or pants to the premiere of her new Tyler Perry-directed drama so she wore both!

Meanwhile, Janet has dismissed reports that she is engaged to her Arab businessman boyfriend Wissam Al Mana.

“He’s a very, very private man so I don’t talk about our relationship but I really think it’s important that I just say this: they’ve (the press) been trying to marry me off for a very, very long time,” she says. “But I’m not engaged so I will say that.”

Janet earlier parted ways from long-time partner, producer Jermaine Dupri, after seven years of dating.

Two of Hollywood’s most finest dressed women attended the John Galliano Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2011 runway show at Opera Comique in Paris, France on Sunday (October 3).

While Dita Von Teese was joined by her aristocrat boyfriend Louis Marie de Castelbajac, pop star Janet Jackson could be seen taking in the fashion extravaganza from the front row alongside her billionaire beau Wissam Al Mana.

Staged in the phenomenal Baroque surroundings of the Opera Comique, the show was set up as a progression of the tale of Mari Lani, an aspiring actress living in Paris during the late 1920s, who convinced Matisse, Cocteau and Chagall among other of-the-moment artists to paint her portrait, promising that the works would be featured in her upcoming film. Once her collection was complete, she sold it, took the cash and shipped out for the States. The film was, and always had been, pure fiction.

Also in attendance? Editor-in-Chief of Vogue France Carine Roitfeld and Rolling Stones rocker Ron Wood.

Meanwhile, Dita is going to be making an appearance on the iconic forensics series CSI come early January.

On the show, Dita, will be “tantalizing” and “tormenting” in her role as a classic L.A. film noir femme fatale. Executive producer Carol Mendelsohn tells Entertainment Weekly that the case “will get personal” for Szmanda’s Sanders.

Making the most of their holiday in France, Janet Jackson and her boyfriend Wissam Al Mana enjoyed a romantic lunch at Avenue Restaurant in Paris today (September 30).

Following their midday feast, the happy couple hit up Avenue Montaigne for an afternoon of shopping at the Balmain boutique.

Janet and Wissam are in the City of Light after spending some time in New York City where they dined at a leading New York restaurant. “Janet was glowing. They had a corner table and were very cuddly. They seemed very much in love,” the New York Post quotes a source as saying. “Wissam picked up the cheque, and when asked if they’d be back next week, they said they were flying to Paris for Fashion Week.”

Janet, who split with Jermaine Dupri last year after seven years, met the Qatari businessman, who at 35 is nearly 10 years her junior, when she performed at an event in the Middle East last December.

Wissam is director of Al Mana Retail, a shareholder in Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Kuwait.
