After meeting and greeting fans, the singer-turned-author headed to the CNN studios where he filmed an hour-long interview with Larry King.
During the broadcast, Ricky said he always knew “deep down” in his heart he was gay and was thrilled when he finally came out.
“It was five years ago when I understood and felt deep down in the bottom of my heart and soul that I was finally ready to accept my truth,” the 38-year-old sex symbol said. “I had plenty of time to think, to fall in and out of love, and to live through everything that I had to live through. Until then, even though I knew deep down in my heart what I was about, but I just didn’t own it. And I didn’t feel the need to tell the rest of the world. On one hand I felt that it was nobody’s business but my own. On the other hand I simply didn’t see how I was going to change everything.”
Ricky, who currently has a boyfriend, told Larry he had been with women and even fallen in love with them but there was no doubt in his mind he was a gay man.
Asked how he came out, Ricky said, “Well, first to my mother. And she actually asked me, my son, are you in love? And I was in love. And she said, is it with a man? And I said yes, mom, it’s with a man.”
